Our Thematic Areas
We work with women and girls across Nigeria and in the world at large to identify the changes they want to see and empower them to claim their rights. GEI also works in defending the rights of women and girls to lives free from gender-based violence; to secure a fairer division of care-work and to control their own sexuality.
Through gender inclusive and sensitive programming, we work to improve equity and participation of women and girls in development activities. We also challenge social and cultural norms which ensures women and girls in Nigeria suffers systematic disadvantages.
Through safe spaces, we are helping communities to raise their voices to demand accountability, through advocacy, promoting engagement between people and government and strengthening community structures through this, we improve government accountability and responsiveness to the needs of the poor and marginalized people.
Our programmes enhances the capacity of individuals and groups especially at community level training them on varieties of skills and opening up market opportunities for them to make choices and to transform those choices into desired actions and outcomes thereby improving the lives of marginalized people especially women, girls and PLWDs.
Women and girls around the world are more likely to live in poverty just because they are women and girls. They have less access to land, education, income and decision making all of which keeps them poor.
GEI puts women and girl’s rights at the center of all our work because we believe that inequality is an injustice we must fight.
